Can you make popcorn in the oven

Otherwise, the kernels that aren't touching the pot will not be heated properly they won't pop. Set the stovetop to medium-high heat and begin to gently shake the pot back and forth, using potholders to keep from burning your fingers. Listen until the sound of popping slows to 2 to 5 seconds between pops, then remove the pot from the heat. Allow the popcorn to cool for about a minute or so, then add salt, melted butter or similar seasonings to taste. Popcorn is best consumed fresh. The sooner you eat it after it comes out of the pot, the better.

Do not attempt to make popcorn in the toaster oven by putting kernels into a paper bag because the bag can catch on fire! If you thought popcorn was just for the movie theaters and sports stadiums, think again.

The next time you get a hankering for popcorn, fire-up the toaster oven. Not every type of corn will pop, but inside one specific variety, you will find trace amounts of water and starch.

When you apply heat to popcorn kernels, the water inside begins to steam. The shell bursts open. The white, airy part of the popped corn that we munch is actually starch from inside the kernel. Just as the kernel was about to burst, the starch instantaneously cooked. Popped corn is essentially turned inside out. Agitate the kernels by shaking or stirring the batch as it heats. Wait 30 seconds then put it back on the heat.

And then after the popping has stopped. I love this recipe and have made many variations on it. Thanks for sharing it! Wanted to throw out a tip for anyone like me looking to eat lighter — this popcorn is delicious with no topping, or just salt. It is also delicious as written… Yum. Using a tip from another blog, I ground kosher salt with a mortar and pestle to make it super fine, so it sticks to the popcorn instead of sinking to the bottom. Now I have a big bowl of popcorn to make caramel corn!

I was very nervous to do this based on some of the comments, but it came out perfectly! I used all organic popcorn, butter, coconut oil, and Celtic Sea salt and it tasted amazing. This made great popcorn, perfectly cooked and my home smells divine now, thank you! The 30 second wait did the trick!

The second batch I added sugar to the oil for it to dissolve — Yum!! This is a great popcorn method and topping!! The popcorn in the coconut oil works a treat! I have used Coconut oil before without this same result, I think that waiting for the three kernels to pop and then removing the pot from the heat momentarily before returning it has created popcorn magic!! Thank you xx Late night study snack sensation!! When the 3 pop the oil is at the right temperature.

You remove, add kernals and return to heat 30 secs later and the kernals are just at the level to pop. This means that they all go at pretty much the same time. It is also why you should keep shaking the pan to ensure that everything mixes.

Thanks for this recipe! This may be a silly question, but when you have waited 2 minutes and the popping has slowed down, do you take it off the heat when you take the lid off? I love this recipe. Your directions made it so clear that even someone without common sense should be able to follow them. I also appreciate that you reply when someone has a question. You are not snarky but matter of fact.

I put a small amount of truffle oil on it at the end and it was yummy!! I was looking for a quick and easy snack to satisfy my sweet tooth and salt craving. This was perfect! I would have never thought of the honey butter on my own, so I am sure glad I found your recipe.

I will definitely be making this again. Your recipe popped up first in the google search and I am very much happy with the outcome of my stove top popcorn. My microwave has broken down and I was wondering how to make it on a stove top. Thanks a lot! And so easy! The first time I made it I used the honey-butter drizzle. However, I find that I like it better without that. Soooooo good! Thank you so much for this recipe — my boyfriend and I have been making it for over a year now and it works every time!

I ended up having to take the lid off before all the kernels were popped, so that I could dumps some of them out, and it was popcorn everywhere.

I think if I start off with a big enough pot to hold ALL the popped corn then it will work perfectly. Terrible advice. My popcorn half-popped and half burned.

Whatever happened to good old fashioned popcorn machines? Just tried it. My first time making popcorn, actually, so thanks. Everything popped and nothing burned. Followed the directions exactly in my dutch oven, and it came out perfect. Every kernel popped, nothing burned using coconut oil , and so delicious! I made two batches — one with the suggested butter and honey topping, and one with nutritional yeast — mixed together they like a healthier version of that delicious Chicago stuff.

I will not be replacing my air popper! Thanks so much for this. Worked perfectly. Thanks for this — removing the test kernels, waiting the 30 seconds before returning the filled pan to the heat, and removing the lid ASAP to vent steam all seem to be key to success. Popped per instructions perfection! Best popcorn in a LONG time! I asked at the local theater and they said they used coconut oil to get theirs to taste that way! Previous posts say that coconut oil leaves NO taste. Should I add more of the oil?

I highly doubt that they use coconut oil. You can buy movie theater popcorn oil in the store. I purchased the kernels a couple days ago knowing I would attempt this. Thanks for sharing…???? Perfect popcorn. Crazy but true. So true I had to post a comment… thank you!!! We have movie night every Saturday, and every Saturday I make awful stove top popcorn! Just tried doing it this way, it is perfect!

Thank you again! I always pop popcorn and even when all the kernels are popped they end up really hard and crunchy but this method got rid of that affect completely!

Thank goodness!! I used run-of-the-mill vegetable oil, as that was all I had to hand at the time, and it worked wonderfully. Thank you for sharing this! This is a great recipe! I just tried as recipe calls with all Non-gmo corn and organic everything else, and subbed sea salt for Pink Himalayan Salt. I have been reading reviews and I have a question. When you say coconut oil are you talking coconut oil that is thick and need to be liquidfied or are you talking fractioned coconut oil.

I am new to coconut oil and do not know much about it but the reviews sound great and I would like to try your method. Do you use coconut oil that is harder and needs to be liquified or do you use fractioned coconut oil.

I could eat this for dinner and I just might! Made it today for the first time as a trial for my Christmas party. Can the butter replace the coconut oil? Am actually want to start making them at my store so I got a popcorn machine. Thanks Bree.. Bre, Bre, Bre I love your your recipe. Non Gmo, cold pressed Coconut oil is a supper food for brain energy, medium chain triglycerides are the key. Nutritional yeast is another well kept secret. I needed to expose the genius of this recipe.

I see you Bre thank you. It worked out great! Thanks for the post. First time making popcorn, aged I ran into a serious problem at the end.. Thank you for a fabulous recipe. Seriously awesome recipe! It was my first time making popcorn and it was perfect!

My husband was in heaven. Thanks for a great recipe! On the taste of coconut oil. Do you sometimes have half a bottle of red wine left over? Melt some coconut oil on low heat and pour on the wine in the bottle. Put in fridge. Oil will become solid and seal off the wine. Does not affect the taste of the wine at all! Awesome recipe! This was my first time making stove top popcorn and it was perfect.

I had no idea it was this easy or fast. My 6 year old son has declared this as the best day ever- it was that good, lol! Thanks so much for sharing your step-by-step instructions! It worked fantastically well and was so easy!

Since a Dutch oven was suggested, I used my Le Creuset. I had to take the popcorn off the medium-high heat on my electric stovetop at about 1 minute and some seconds instead of 2 minutes since I began to smell burning. The bottom third of the popcorn I had to toss, but the bigger issue was the dark burned in spots all over the enamel inside the pan.

I tried various techniques such as boiling with baking soda and scrubbing with a green scrub sponge but the large marks were still there. After a few hours of work and different methods, probably doing a bunch of damage to roughly scrubbing the enamel, I was able to get most of it off, but I would be very careful using an expensive Le Creuset Dutch oven for popcorn.

Good luck! Good day Bree…what if I mix the popcorn in the honey first before putting them in oil after the first three popcorn are poped …is there any aftereffects.. Will get fresh kernels tomorrow and make another batch for my sisters and mom for girls day: Thank you so much for sharing, it is truly appreciated.

Good day Bree. I made my popcorn today with your recommendation and it was perfect…. Thank you very much, I hope this will be useful for all who want to make amazing popcorn. Thanks, I ave recently been looking for info about this subject for a while and yours is the greatest I ave found out so far.

Pingback: 10 Easy—But Tasty! Great techniques to use to get great popcorn. My first attempt; used almost a half cup of corn and bit less oil. Only 2 of the 3 popped, I gave up on the third after it began to brown and oil smoked. Still and all, the remainder of the steps went as directed, and it popped up beautifully. I then left it on a low flame for a couple minutes and stirred it to allow more moisture to evaporate and therefore make popcorn crunchier.

Then I dripped in the butter and honey and stirred it around. When finished munching, the bottom of the pot had only one dud and one half popped kernal. Thanks for sharing…. Love it! Pingback: how to cook regular popcorn in the microwave — Microwave Recipes.
