What do eucharistic ministers say
The purpose of these guidelines is to provide some general observations and principles on this important ministry of the Church. For a smooth functioning of this ministry, the needs of the faith community must be taken into account. These guidelines define the contents of the liturgical law on this matter, the demands of a good Eucharistic liturgy, and the expectations of the universal and local Church. When the size of the congregation or the incapacity of the Bishop, priest, or deacon requires it, the celebrant may be assisted by other Bishops, priests, or deacons.
Neither deacons nor lay ministers may ever receive Holy Communion in the manner of a concelebrating priest. The practice of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion waiting to receive Holy Communion until after the distribution of Holy Communion is not in accord with liturgical law. After all Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion have received the Eucharist, the bishop or priest celebrant reverently hands vessels containing the Body or the Blood of the Lord to the deacons or extraordinary ministers who will assist with the distribution of Holy Communion.
The deacon may assist the priest in handing the vessels containing the Body and Blood of the Lord to the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. GIRM, ; If the Eucharistic bread or some particle of it falls, it should be picked up reverently by the minister. In most cases we will need four people to distribute Communion. The Priest and Deacon, if present, are the ordinary ministers. If we have a priest and a deacon, we will need two extraordinary ministers. If there is not Deacon, we will need three. If you notice we are short and are able to volunteer, please come up and stand at the front of side aisle as quickly and reverently as you can.
EMs are to wait until the priest and deacon all clergy have received. The ministers will then go forth to distribute to Communion. The Priest or deacon will distribute communion to the altar servers. Note: Altar servers will not receive the precious blood. If there are people unable to come forward because of disability distribute to them first if they are in the front pew, or at the end if they are in the wheelchair sections.
